  • Ardentryst

Free Mac Windows Linux Python Website
    Ardentryst 1.7 (2009)
    GitHub
Ardentryst is an action/RPG sidescroller, focused not just on fighting, but on story, and character development. Strategy as well as reflexes will be needed to overcome the game. The game is set in another world. It is somewhat a cross between Donkey Kong Country, Mario, Castlevania and Kingdom Hearts. Ardentryst is focused on a fantasy world. The player is guided through a storyline which he or she must act in and play a major role in keeping peace and order in Ardentryst. It features two playable characters and a variety of weapons, items, armour, monsters, and beautiful level scenery and graphics.

Ardentryst has to be run with Python 2 (it won't run in Python 3 (yet :)). Go Ollie seems to need your X11 server to support MIT Shared Memory in order for the game to run. Plee the Bear should work fine though, just make sure to also clone and compile the Bear engine somewhere (such as at the top directory of the plee-the-bear sources) and install that first if you are trying to compile the game rather than installing from your package manager.
If you have trouble getting any windows to open when using VcXsrv locally with Windows Subsystem for Linux, kill VcXsrv in Task Manager, then run XLaunch, and make sure the "Native OpenGL" option is unchecked when running XLaunch. (VcXsrv Bug #94)
